American writer and activist Julia Butterfly Hill shall meet with What's Your Tree participants from Italy in an event that is open to everyone. Julia shall speak about the What's Your Tree initiative and 7 Days to Purpose, a week-long What's Your Tree experience at Damanhur. After her talk, there shall be space for questions from the public.
Twenty-five new friends from around the world have made the journey to Damanhur for the month-long Ecovillage Design Education course, being held April 2 - 30, 2011. A wide range of diversities offers vibrant perspectives and cross-cultural learning opportunities, from twenty-one year old university students to experienced elders, and participants from eighteen different countries, including China, Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, South Africa, Russia and the Ukraine, as well as the US and many European countries.
In collaboration with Gaia Education, Damanhur is offering this course, which is being held in Italy for the first time. Based on the Gaia Education Ecovillage Design Curriculum, this seminar is an official contribution to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005–2014.
Two professors and nine students from Ananda College of Living Wisdom in Nevada City, California came to Damanhur March 26 - 28 during their European study tour, visiting different spiritual communities, including their sister community in Assisi, Italy. The Ananda College program offers students a holistic educational experience that encompasses inspirational art, renewable energy and sustainability, community life, and the exploration of spirit and consciousness. The curriculum is balanced with spiritual values and practical experience and takes the individuality of each student into account. The group received inspiration while visiting the main areas of Damanhur, the Temples and many communities, including the youth community "Casa Ragazzi."
Mariam Massaro, Dameron Midgett and collaborators met at Damanhur March 21 - 26 to create segments for the film "Awakening the Tribes of Light," part of the Gaea Star Crystal project.
The project was initiated by Mariam with the intention of awakening and reuniting lightworkers on Earth. The playful group donned galactic costumes and filmed at the Open Temple of Damjl and in other natural areas of Damanhur.
The nature-sensitive guests particularly enjoyed visiting the Sacred Woods and hearing the Music of the Plants. Mariam, a singer as well as a filmmaker, herbalist and midwife, sang beautiful melodies in harmony with the plant music.
Dr. Vladislav Matrenistsky, student of Tuvan Shaman Nikolay Oorzhak, who came to visit Damanhur for the first time last spring, shall offer a seminar on voice and bitonal singing. The seminar shall be held in Damanhur March 19 - 20, 2011, during the Spring Equinox season. For more information:

Damanhur Crea hosted an evening of full immersion in the sights, sounds, scents, tastes, movement and cuisine of Madagascar. Organized by Locusta Liquirizia, Enrico Formica and Maria Vassallo, the evening began with a presentation by three members of the Madagascar Association's Board of Directors. After the presentation, a traditional Malagasy dinner, with meals served to over 180 people. About 20 people from the Association were present, as well as 30 other Malagasy and African people from various provinces of northern Italy.
Yasmin Nammu, Brazilian belly dancer, and her student Newa came to Damanhur for a two-day visit. Yasmin, who has lived in Bologna, Italy for many years, offers a style of dance that blends exploration of feminine grace, traditional belly dance and the vitality of Brazilian culture.
On Saturday, February 26, Yasmin offered a dance workshop at the Art Barn, which was transformed into a kind of Middle Eastern style salon, with carpets lining the room. She shared vivacious belly dance and tribal dances moves to rhythmic music with many guests and Damanhurians, including dancers who are part of the Sacred Dance pathway. Yasmin shared what she considers to be the original spirit of belly dance, a ritual and sacred dance, not often represented in modern belly dance contexts. She also shared her knowledge of dance, citing historical traditions around fertility, goddess spirituality and femininity.
Information and Communication: Truth and Manipulation
On Saturday, February 19, Damanhur Crea hosted a conference entitled "Information and Communication: Truth or Manipulation." The event, organized by Conacreis, Damanhur and the "Accademia dell'Equilibrio" was held with the intention to offer clarity about how mass media, diffusing contradictory news and interpretations, often creates and spreads false information. During the conference, five main themes relevant to current events were explored - the environment, health, GMOs, justice and nuclear technology. Five Damanhurian actors presented press releases based on the various not-really-news items that can be found in newspapers on these themes. Then, five presentations were given by university and academic experts, revisiting the press releases and indicating how to distinguish the facts from interpretations.
Uygar Ozesmi, General Director of Mediterranean Greenpeace (Turkey, Israel and Lebanon) and his wife Oya Aynan, a journalist, came for a brief visit to Damanhur to contact the Federation in order to explore future collaborations. Both Uygar and Oya are active in promoting ecovillages in Turkey, and they came to Italy to visit the most developed ecovillages. Our two guests have a very ambitious project, to unite all the people and movements that believe in changing the world and work for it, creating a parallel organization to the United Nations, which can become an interlocutor for the UN.
