Twenty-five new friends from around the world have made the journey to Damanhur for the month-long Ecovillage Design Education course, being held April 2 - 30, 2011. A wide range of diversities offers vibrant perspectives and cross-cultural learning opportunities, from twenty-one year old university students to experienced elders, and participants from eighteen different countries, including China, Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, South Africa, Russia and the Ukraine, as well as the US and many European countries.
In collaboration with Gaia Education, Damanhur is offering this course, which is being held in Italy for the first time. Based on the Gaia Education Ecovillage Design Curriculum, this seminar is an official contribution to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005–2014.
The goals of the course encompass: exploring solutions and experiencing effective models to transform society, design and implementation skills for effective projects, restoring nature and building community on our planet, and exploring the importance of spirituality and creating sacred space in building new societies. Participants gain integrative design skills in four areas of sustainability: ecology, economy, social aspects and worldview, as well as basic tools for setting up EDE courses in their areas of the world.
