The citizens of Damanhur have created many associations, have been given recognition from the Italian government for their role in social organisation.
250 Damanhurian citizens are active in various voluntary fields: Civil Defence, Forest Fire Wardens, Italian Red Cross, Blood Donors and Care Assistants for the Elderly. Damanhur is the proof that new forms of society are possible and realisable as an important step towards the creation of a new social, economic, human and cultural balance. Valchiusella, where the Federation is situated, is an economically depressed area yet, at the same time, uncontaminated. Damanhur is bringing back ancient arts and trades which are based upon local resources. The valley needs new infrastructure, schools, libraries, services and activities able to stimulate to the area both from a social and an economic point of view. The Damanhurians have been working for years to realise a sustainable development project for the whole valley and are actively committed in the local and national political arenas, in order to put their experience at the service of others and society as a whole. Twenty two Damanhurians have been elected as councillors in eight villages of the valley and the Mayor of Vidracco is a Damanhurian citizen.
Damanhur has founded an independent political movement, ‘Con te, per il Paese’.
At a national level, the Damanhurians are one of the founding members of CONACREIS, the co-ordinating body for all the ethical and spiritual research associations, which is recognised as an Association for Social Organisation by the Italian State.
In Valchiusella, Damanhur organises the ‘Val di Chy’ project, which helps people belonging to a broad range of philosophies to settle into the area, in order to create the ‘first autonomous, spiritual region of the new world’, a society based upon solidarity, eco-sustainability and free spiritual and social research.

Prof. BILL METCALF
University of Brisbane (Australia)Extract from: ‘The Findhorn Book of Community Living’ Findhorn Press - UK & USA, 2004 “
"Community life is characterised by a shared philosophy, through which a process of constant debate is set in motion, with the intent of nourishing the soul of the body to which it is linked. Damanhur is a permanent laboratory where people of different backgrounds work together to realise a shared goal and the result generates a better quality of life. Could the same experience be transferred to the inner cities? I believe so.”
